What do the ticks under my message mean?

Updated 21 October 2026

The Short Answer

One grey ✓ means your message was sent, two grey ✓✓ that it reached them, two blue ✓✓ that they read it. Instagram and your chat link go from ✓ straight to blue ✓✓; email, SMS and calls keep one ✓. No tick means it is still waiting to go, it failed, or you marked it as sent yourself.

The ticks only go as far as the channel tells PropKaki, so one ✓ on Instagram or email is not a message stuck on its way.

What does each tick mean?

The tick sits beside the time under each message of yours in your Inbox.

TickMeans
✓ greySent — it has gone out
✓✓ greyDelivered — it reached their phone
✓✓ blueRead — they opened it

Seen, small and grey, still sits under your newest message they have read, as before.

Which channels show which ticks?

Channel✓ sent✓✓ delivered✓✓ blue, read
WhatsApp — both your numbers, and messages you send from your phoneYesYesYes
MessengerYesYesYes
InstagramYesNo — Instagram never says a message arrivedYes
Your chat linkYesNoYes, once someone signed in to PropKaki opens the chat
Email, SMS, callsYesNoNo

So on Instagram and your chat link a message goes from ✓ straight to blue ✓✓, with nothing in between.

Why did my earlier messages turn blue too?

Once a later message of yours on a channel has been delivered or read, every earlier one there was too, so they all show it — the way WhatsApp does on your phone.

It stays within one channel. If the same client writes to you on WhatsApp and Messenger, a read on WhatsApp does not turn a Messenger message blue.

Why is a message stuck on one ✓?

  • It has not reached them yet — on WhatsApp or Messenger, for example while their phone is off.
  • You sent it before 21 October 2026. Older messages show ✓ until they are read, then blue ✓✓; they never show the grey ✓✓.
  • The channel stops there. On email, SMS and calls one ✓ is as far as it goes, and on Instagram and your chat link the next step is blue ✓✓.

Why don't my ticks turn blue?

Either they have not read it yet, or they have turned read receipts off on their phone. With read receipts off, your message never turns blue and no Seen appears — exactly as in WhatsApp.

So grey ✓✓ does not always mean unread.

Why is there no tick at all?

Your message shows no tick when:

  • it is still waiting to go, or PropKaki has not yet had word that it went;
  • it failed;
  • it shows You marked this as sent — you sent it from your own app and told PropKaki it went, so PropKaki cannot see what happened to it after that.

Still Stuck?

Ask PropKaki in the chat — it answers most of these directly — or message the team.
