Can I edit a template after it is approved?
Updated 1 September 2026
The Short Answer
Press Edit on any template and change the wording. Anything you change goes back to Meta to be checked again, which usually takes a few minutes. Keep the blanks where you want a name, a place or a number to appear.
Editing is expected. The only cost is another short wait.
How do I edit one?
Press Edit on any of them in Extensions → Templates and change the wording so it sounds like you.
Keep the blanks where you want a name, a place or a number to appear.
Does it need approving again?
Yes. Anything you change goes back to Meta to be checked again, which usually takes a few minutes.
So editing a template you are about to use is worth doing the day before, not the moment you need it.
Can I still send it while it is being re-checked?
The new wording is not approved yet, so that message opens in your own WhatsApp for you to tap send — the same as any unapproved template.
Nothing is blocked; you are the one pressing send for those few minutes.
Should I edit or make a new one?
Edit. Adding a near-duplicate beside the old one leaves you with two similar templates and a slower picker at the moment you are in a hurry.
Make a new one when the job is genuinely different, not when the wording needs a tweak.
