What will an automation cost me?

Updated 1 September 2026

The Short Answer

An automation costs one credit for each message it drafts and one for each person it sends to. The turn-on check works out both before anything runs, and gives you a rough monthly total for your schedule. Nothing is charged for an automation that is switched off or that finds nobody due.

The arithmetic is simple, and you see it before the automation runs rather than after.

What am I charged for?

Two things, both 1 credit:

  • Each message the automation drafts.
  • Each person it sends to.

So an automation that drafts to 20 people and sends all 20 costs 40 credits. One that drafts 20 and sends 5 costs 25.

When is the charge taken?

On Approve Before Sending and Send Automatically, drafts are written when the automation runs — so the credits go at the run.

On Notify Only and Confirm Before Drafting, nothing is written until you say go, so the credits go then. Same people, same number — only the moment differs.

How do I see the monthly cost?

Flip the switch and the check estimates it: the cost of one run, and about what that comes to in a month at your schedule.

It counts a daily automation as 30 runs, weekdays as 22, weekly as about 4, fortnightly as about 2, monthly as 1, and every-3-months as a third of one. On Command has no clock, so there is no monthly figure to give.

Does a switched-off automation cost anything?

No. An automation under Not Running Yet costs nothing, however it is configured.

An automation that is on but finds nobody due on a given run also costs nothing — there is nothing to draft.

How do I keep the cost down?

Two levers.

Stay on Confirm Before Drafting — the default — so drafts are only written for runs you actually look at.

And narrow Who. A weekly chaser aimed at Everyone costs many times what the same chaser aimed at one group does.
