How do I choose who an automation writes to?

Two places, one setting:

• Open Extensions → Automations and click the automation. In the panel beside the list, the first field is Who It Goes Through.
• In the editor — Edit on that panel, Create a New One, or a card on Browse — click the top box. Its first field is Who.

Either way it covers every step in the sequence: there is one Who per automation, not one per step.

The list has three choices:

• Everyone — every contact in your book.
• Groups — opens your groups; pick one. Add Group sits at the foot of this list.
• Individuals — opens your contacts by name; pick one person.

New Leads is no longer offered. An older automation that still shows it keeps running, on the people you have never messaged.

1. Open Extensions → Automations and click the automation.
2. In the panel, open Who It Goes Through.
3. Open Groups and pick the group.
4. Read the line under the control: Nobody yet, 1 person, or how many people the group holds today.

If the automation was running, the change switches it off. Turn it on again and the turn-on check runs for the new audience.

The line under Who It Goes Through is the same count the run itself uses: Nobody yet, 1 person, or the number of people. Nobody yet is not an error — an empty group fills in as you add people to it.

The turn-on check goes one step further. It shows which channel is first to reach each person, then ends with a line such as:

• Nobody is left out — 12 of 12 are reachable.
• 3 of the 12 can’t be reached at all — no number and no email.
• Nobody in this list can be reached — no number and no email on file for any of them.

They carry on. Who decides who starts the sequence; it never decides who continues. Once someone has started:

• Taking them out of the group does not stop the rest of their steps.
• Changing the automation's Who does not stop them either.

Three things stop a sequence part-way: they reply (unless Stop sending once reply received is switched off on the editor's last box), you switch the automation off, or they reach its end.

Every card on Browse arrives with nobody picked: its top box reads Choose Who. The heading it sits under, such as Proven Strategies for Dormant Leads, says who it suits best; it does not pick them for you.

Click the top box, set Who, then press Use This Sequence. Press it with Who still empty and the editor stops with Pick who it’s for. and opens that box — your other changes stay as they were.

Turn the automation on from its switch or Turn It On. The check that opens reads It goes through followed by the audience you picked. If nobody is in it right now, it adds This names nobody right now. and the reason.

Press Turn On or Turn On Anyway and the row's pill changes from Draft to Live — or Sends Itself, on Send Automatically.
