Set up billing in Meta for your WhatsApp number

Updated 20 October 2026

The Short Answer

If a message says there's a payment problem on your WhatsApp Business account, Meta cannot charge you yet. In Extensions → Connectors → WhatsApp, press Set Up Billing in Meta: add a payment method, choose Singapore and Singapore Dollar, add your card, then press Check Again. Meta bills you separately from your credits.

Meta charges your own WhatsApp Business account for messages to people who haven't written in 24 hours, so this is set up once, in Meta, by you.

Why aren't my WhatsApp messages going out?

Meta charges your account for each message to someone who hasn’t messaged you in 24 hours. Until billing is set up, those messages won’t go. You may see it in four places:

  • a message in the thread: Didn’t go — there’s a payment problem on your WhatsApp Business account., with Set Up Billing in Meta under it;
  • an alert, Your WhatsApp messages aren’t going out — in the app, on Telegram and by email, at most once a day, and it cannot be switched off;
  • a warning on your WhatsApp Line card: Billing not set up;
  • the check before a send, naming how many people won’t get it.

How do I set up billing in Meta?

  1. Open Extensions → Connectors, open the WhatsApp card and press Set Up Billing in Meta. Your own billing page opens in a new tab.
  2. Press Add payment method.
  3. Choose Singapore and Singapore Dollar, and set the time zone to Singapore.
  4. Add your card.
  5. Back in PropKaki, press Check Again.

Meta can take up to a day to accept a new card. Until it does, messages still fail with a payment problem, even though Meta’s billing page shows the card. Press Check Again the next day.

⚠️ Check step 3 before you save. Meta fills in another country by default — Argentine Peso and a Shanghai time zone have been seen — and you can’t change these once saved.

Do I need to do this for each number?

Once per WhatsApp Business account. Meta bills per account, not per phone number, so set it up once on the account your number belongs to. Set Up Billing in Meta opens that account’s own page, so you don’t have to find it.

If earlier connect attempts left extra, empty WhatsApp accounts in Meta, they need no card. Only the account with your number on it sends anything.

With two WhatsApp numbers, each number’s block on the WhatsApp card has its own checklist, and the warning and the alert name the number: Billing not set up for Personal — its messages to people who haven’t messaged you in 24 hours won’t go. and Messages from Personal aren’t going out — Meta couldn’t charge the WhatsApp Business account for +65 8890 2211.

What happens to the messages that were waiting?

While Meta can’t charge you, messages still waiting for Meta’s approval on your line wait rather than fail one by one. They go out once:

  • you press Check Again with your currency set, or
  • a message Meta charged for is delivered.

PropKaki also re-reads your account from Meta every hour, so a currency you set is picked up even if you don’t press Check Again. A message that already shows Didn’t go stays as it is — send it again once billing works. If its credit came back, the line ends Your credit is back.

Why is the warning still there after I set it up?

Meta lets PropKaki read your account’s currency, but not whether a card is on it. So after you set things up, the warning stays until the first message Meta charges for reaches someone. Press Check Again and send as normal.

A new card can take up to a day to start working for WhatsApp. If messages still fail after that, open your billing page and check the card’s status — Meta may need it verified.

Is this the same as my PropKaki credits?

They are two separate bills:

Who chargesWhat for
CreditsPropKakiDrafting and sending — 1 credit per person on a send, as on any channel
Meta’s chargeMeta, to your cardEach message to someone who hasn’t messaged you in 24 hours

Meta sets its own price and bills it to your WhatsApp Business account. PropKaki doesn’t add to it or collect it. See What does sending a template cost me?

Meta's settings say my number is unknown. Is something wrong?

No. Under Business Settings → WhatsApp accounts, Meta may show your account as unknown and say it hasn’t added any phone numbers yet. Meta’s newer view doesn’t fill in numbers that also run on the WhatsApp Business app.

Your real account is under Accounts → Messaging accounts. Don’t press Add phone number in the other view — that starts registering a new number.

Still Stuck?

Ask PropKaki in the chat — it answers most of these directly — or message the team.
