How do I log out?

Updated 1 September 2026

The Short Answer

Open the menu with your name on it and choose to log out. That signs out the device you are on. Other devices stay signed in, so log out of each one you want out of — or if you have lost a device, change your email address to cut it off.

Simple, with one thing worth knowing about other devices.

How do I log out?

Open the menu with your name on it and choose to log out.

You are returned to the signed-out view, and your chats are safe — logging out does not delete anything.

Does it log me out everywhere?

No. It signs out that device.

Your phone stays signed in when you log out on your laptop, which is usually what you want.

How do I log out of a device I no longer have?

Change the address on the account under Account Settings → Account.

The old device's session no longer matches, and a new sign-in link goes only to the new address.

Will I lose anything?

Nothing. Your chats, files, credits and settings live on the account.

Log back in on any device and it is all there.

Should I log out on a shared computer?

Yes. Signing in is designed to last, which is exactly wrong on a borrowed machine.

A private browser window is the other way to handle it: closing it ends the session.
